The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes has tragically been hit with some devastating family news just two days before his team will take on the Buffalo Bills in a game that will decide who will go to the Super Bowl.

Patrick’s Sad Family News

Just over 48 hours before this game, Patrick’s beloved grandfather Randy has been moved to hospice care. This was revealed by Patrick’s mother Randi in a social media post on Friday.

“My dad is in a hospice and I’m lost for words,” she wrote on her Instagram Story. She wrote this alongside a photo of herself with Randy.

Randy celebrated his 78th birthday earlier this month. While Randi has long indicated online that her father is in poor health, she’s never elaborated on what his specific issue is. Over the holidays last month, Randi asked for prayers for her father. Back in September, she posted a photo of herself watching the Chiefs play with her dad as he lay in what looks to be a hospital bed.

For those who have been through a similar situation, it is extremely difficult – on the sick and their loved ones.

“Prayer warriors please pray for my daddy,” she wrote alongside that post. “He is in the hospital and is not well.”

Bad Timing For Patrick

This sad news about his grandfather also comes just over a week after Patrick welcomed his third child, a baby girl that they named Golden. One can only imagine the rollercoaster of emotions that Patrick is going through in his mind right now. Despite this, he was practicing with the Chiefs as usual on Friday.

Last weekend, Patrick had his head firmly in the game as he led the Chiefs to a 23-14 win over Houston Texans. This victory happened to come on his mother’s 49th birthday.

“Winning on and off the field! I am so proud of you son. Grateful for the moments with family that mean the most,” Randi wrote on Instagram afterwards. This caption was posted alongside a photo of Randi her sons Patrick and Jackson. Joining them was Patrick’s wife Brittany, a Sport’s Illustrated model that he’s been with since high school.

Patrick has long been open about the importance of family. Back in September, Patrick told People Magazine that he enjoys “spending as much time with the family” as possible.

“There’s nothing better,” he added.

Sunday’s Crucial Game

If Patrick can lead the Chiefs to victory over the Bills on Sunday, they will take on the winner of Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles for the Super Bowl title in New Orleans on February 9. The Chiefs have won the Super Bowl for the last two years in a row, so the stakes of Sunday’s game could not be any higher.

Whether you’re a Chiefs fan or not, it can’t be denied that this is a tragic situation. Please join us in saying a prayer for Patrick, his grandfather, and the rest of his family during this difficult time.
