Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his camp are reportedly trying to dissuade his dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., from a public low-grade celebrity fight against former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rocker.
Looking at Rocker training for the event, it’s pretty easy to see why.
To recap, this all started with a viral video that showed Rocker randomly confronting Mahomes Sr. on Bourbon Street in New Orleans during Super Bowl weekend. Or maybe not so random, if it stemmed from their MLB playing days.
Rocker, who has a history of controversial baggage throughout his career, and the father of Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has had several run-ins with the law, had to be separated by bystanders.
Nobody knows enough to confirm what the issue between the two was.
Patrick Mahomes Taking On John Rocker In A Boxing Ring
Following that video, which Barstool Sports posted to social media, a boxing match emerged, to nobody’s surprise. Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy announced that the “Beef on Bourbon Street” would take place on April 18th.
“I guess they f***ing hated each other since their playing days, baseball,” Portnoy said on social media. “I mean, I guess not surprising. Everyone has beef with John Rocker.”
Both men played in the major leagues. Rocker was a closer for the Braves, and he started his career on fire before controversies and taunting fans threw him off course. Mahomes Sr. had his best season with the New York Mets in 1999, posting an 8–0 record during 39 relief appearances, and helped the team reach the playoffs.
Portnoy assures fans that the incident on Bourbon Street was not staged.
“It’s honestly insane to insinuate that we would stage a fight on Bourbon Street to promote a fight that was announced a couple days later,” he said after obviously staging the fight on Bourbon Street just days before the boxing match was announced.

Mahomes Wants His Dad To Pull Out
Listen, it seems absurd that Patrick Mahomes Sr. would accept a fight with John Rocker. Sure, they’re both over 50 at this point, but even in the street altercation video, you can tell Rocker is pretty ripped.
Not to mention, bro has anger issues.

PAT MAHOMES SR WILL WISH HE NEVER FUCKED WITH ME AFTER APRIL 18TH
AND TO MAHOMES JR’S TEAM TRYING TO CANCEL THIS FIGHT, STAY OUT OF MY FUCKING WAY pic.twitter.com/ipFQVAdshN
Pretty sure some NFL ref out there just threw a 15-yard personal foul flag to protect the Chiefs just looking at that picture.
According to the US Sun, the Chiefs quarterback is trying to convince his dad not to take the fight. However, the source seems to be Rocker himself.
“Hearing Pat Mahomes Jr’s team of woke suits is trying to dissuade Pat Sr from fighting me,” he wrote on the socials. “Why don’t we sweeten the pot. I will put a percentage of my purse towards a charity my X followers choose?”
John Rocker and Patrick Mahomes Sr. have a history of controversy. Rocker became controversial primarily due to his offensive remarks about various groups in a 1999 Sports Illustrated interview. The elder Mahomes experienced his third arrest for DWI last February, just days before the Super Bowl. He faced up to ten years in prison but was given a sweetheart deal.
What could possibly go wrong with this impending train wreck?
