Days before the Super Bowl, the Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce were left humiliated by a former Boston radio host.
Mahomes And Kelce Get Trolled
Rich Shertenlieb previously had radio shows on 98.5 The Sports Hub and 100.7 WXLZ in Boston. Though he was fired just over a year ago, he showed up on Super Bowl media day in New Orleans. Shertenlieb did so with the clear goal of trolling Mahomes and Kelce over alleged pro-Chiefs bias from the referees.
“Patrick, for your whole career you have had so many great people help you win. So, who is your favorite ref?” Shertenlieb asked Mahomes.
Mahomes tried to answer the question in a serious way.
“That’s hilarious,” Mahomes responded earnestly. “All the refs are great, man. All the refs are great. They do the best they can. We go out there and play the game the right way.”
Not stopping there, Shertenlieb proceeded to double down with another trolling question.
“Is there one you give a Christmas card to possibly?” he asked.
“Not that I can remember,” Mahomes replied. “I’ll have to ask my teammates to try and figure it out.”
Shertenlieb then shifted his attention to Kelce.
“Travis, what do you love more? Taylor Swift or phantom 15-yard roughing the passer penalties in the playoffs?” the former radio host asked.
Kelce, however, was not having any of it.
“That’s a good question,” Kelce fired back. “Anybody else?”

Shertenlieb’s Firing
Shertenlieb spent nearly two decades hosting the Toucher & Rich Show in Boston with Fred Toucher. In November of 2023, however, Shertenlieb was fired.
“Earlier this year, Rich said some stuff on and off the air I didn’t like, so I texted him some things that I had been holding onto from the course of our relationship that he did not like,” Toucher said at the time. “His agent told my agent, maybe it’s better if the guys negotiated separately.”
“I get a call that yesterday was Rich’s last show on the station,” he continued. “We all assumed that Rich was going to be here… Rich is not coming back.”

NFL Addresses Referee Rumors
This comes after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and the NFL Referees Association spoke out to address the rumors of referee favoritism towards the Chiefs.
“It reminds me of the script, that I write a script for the entire season… It’s a ridiculous theory, for anyone who might take it seriously,” Goodell told reporters on Monday.
NFLRA executive director Scott Green was quick to agree.
“It is insulting and preposterous to hear conspiracy theories that somehow 17 officiating crews consisting of 138 officials are colluding to assist one team,” Green said. “NFL officials are graded every week, on every single play of each game.
“These grades are the determining factor as to who receives postseason assignments,” he added. “The NFLRA commends its members, who all strive to do exactly what all 32 NFL teams do, which is to excel at their jobs so that they are working the last game of the season — the Super Bowl.”
The Chiefs will be taking on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl on Sunday. It will certainly be interesting to see how the game goes for them!
