Sondra Williams, the wife of San Francisco 49ers left tackle Trent Williams, announced on Instagram that she has given birth to a stillborn son.

Williams also notes that the couple had initially been pregnant with twins, but the other child was tragically lost earlier in the pregnancy.

“I can’t even begin to describe how I felt leaving the hospital without you,” she wrote. “Nor how it feels being home celebrating Thanksgiving without my baby in my arms. My heart is broken and my arms are empty.”

“But I know you’ll always be near watching over me and your sisters. And for that, my heart smiles with gratitude.”

Mrs. Williams described the ordeal as the “saddest Hello and Goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure.”

Trent Williams’ Family Is Grieving

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said that his star player had spent time at the hospital last week grieving the loss of his child.

“He was there at the hospital with her (Sondra) and got to meet him and say bye,” Shanahan said Monday. “Then he had to cremate him on Friday. So he’s been dealing with that, and he’s working through it.”

“But we’re all just trying to be here for him through it all.”

The boy was their first son, named Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr. The couple have three young daughters. Immediately, thoughts and prayers began pouring in for the couple.

“The loss of a child can never be forgotten, but the spirit that everyone in the room carried him to a blessed place,” one follower wrote.

Another added, “I am so sorry to hear this. I am sending love and prayers to your sweet family.”

Second Family Tragedy In Weeks For The 49ers

The tragic news for Trent Williams’ family comes just weeks after San Francisco 49ers cornerback Charvarius “Mooney” Ward announced the heartbreaking passing of his one-year-old daughter, Amani Joy, on Instagram.

Mooney described her as a source of joy and inspiration.

Amani, who was born prematurely in November 2022 and had Down syndrome, had battled heart issues throughout her life.

These tragedies have served as a poignant reminder of the personal lives and challenges of those behind the jerseys, prompting calls for prayers and support for athletes we sometimes forget are human.
