In a press conference on Wednesday, Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan was rather… direct about an issue he took with the media. There has been a perception that at 3-11, his team is “soft.”
Tennessee has had their fair share of disappointments this season, including a late-season quarterback change from Will Levis to Mason Rudolph. But it’s one thing to say a team isn’t very good, or even bad. It’s a whole different thing to accuse proud grown men of being “soft.”
Callahan had enough and took matters into his own hands.
He went on a full fledged rant for approximately two minutes telling reporters that while his team might be struggling to win, they are anything but soft. That’s been a narrative that’s been thrown around by the media. Listen to his response to that criticism.
This is obviously not the first time however that head coaches have gone on huge rants. We have some other notables that fans might recognize.
How does Callahan’s rant stack up to these classics?
Dennis Green: “The Bears Are Who We Thought They Were!!”
After blowing a 20-0 halftime lead on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green went on an all-time rant.
This particular game, the Bears’ defense and special teams outscored the Cardinals 27-3 in the second half for a furious comeback win. Green was understandably not happy. It goes down as one of the greatest rants of all time. Chicago would go 13-3 in 2006 on their way to appearing in Super Bowl 41, and it was this game that became the turning point that season.

Mike Gundy: “I’m a man, I’m 40!!”
Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy famously ripped a reporter at a press conference one day. The topic was about Oklahoma State quarterback Bobby Reid. He was heavily criticized in a newspaper column and Coach Gundy was not happy to say the least. As the saying goes, the rest is history.
