Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill just got some positive news regarding a traffic stop back in September that led to a highly publicized incident with police officers.
Hill, you may recall, was cited for “careless driving” and a “seat belt violation.”
The notes on the careless driving infraction indicated officers used a “visual estimation” to determine Hill was traveling at a rate of 60 MPH. This is 20 MPH over the speed limit in that area.
Now, however, based on reporting from Fox Sports radio host Andy Slater, all of that is moot.
“Tyreek Hill’s traffic tickets for careless driving and a seatbelt violation have been dismissed,” he wrote on X. He added that there wasn’t really a choice since the Miami-Dade cops “failed to show up to a court hearing.”

The Miami-Dade Police officers failed to show up to a court hearing, I’m told. https://t.co/XkoUIwarkn
Hill Tickets Dropped When Police Fail To Show Up To Court
Hill had previously engaged several new lawyers for his case, including one who had represented George Floyd’s family in 2020. However, this now seems to have been an unnecessary step. Indeed, Hill is no longer facing charges for the traffic violations.
Of course, the legal team probably wasn’t there to address traffic tickets.
Hill ended up being shockingly arrested over the incident. We mean, handcuffed face down on the pavement prior. As he was making his way to the stadium for his team’s 2024 season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
The Dolphins receiver, in an interview with Lester Holt of NBC Nightly News, explained that he actually feared being shot during a police confrontation that “went from 0 to 60”.

Hill has not been entirely forthcoming with what really happened. He’s insisted he was compliant even when the bodycam footage shows him scolding police officers for tapping on his window.
The president of the South Florida Police Benevolent Association issued a statement defending the officer’s actions.
“He was briefly detained for officer safety, after driving in a manner in which he was putting himself and others in great risk of danger,” he said.
“Upon being stopped, Mr. Hill was not immediately cooperative with the officers on the scene who, pursuant to policy and for their immediate safety, placed Mr. Hill in handcuffs,” he continued. “Mr. Hill, still uncooperative, refused to sit on the ground and was therefore redirected to the ground.”

Hill admitted his behavior could have been better and also, despite previous claims to the media, acknowledged that he did not cooperate when asked to keep his heavily tinted window down.
The Miami-Dade Police Department has been conducting an internal investigation into Hill’s detainment.
All of this was over a seatbelt and speeding violation that cops opted not to pursue in court.
