A video is making rounds on social media showing former Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers greeting a group of nuns.
The video originally was posted by the team on X in 2019, but amassed over 1 million views when it was reshared on Mother’s Day.
Catholic journalist Sachin Jose shared the video on X.
“Here is a video of former NFL quarterback Philip Rivers greeting a group of Dominican nuns,” he wrote. “He was known for attending Mass before every game throughout his career.”
The Chargers had originally captioned the moment: “Blessing your feed.”

Philip Rivers Is A Devout Catholic
Rivers is widely known to be a practicing and devout Catholic off the field. The Indy Star in a profile piece in 2020 describes he and his wife as “raising their children to know, love and serve God, and to love others.”
And they are guiding many children in that manner. Ten, to be exact.
A workhorse on the field, Rivers is also a workhorse off of it. He has ten children with his wife Tiffany.
Tiffany was his high school sweetheart and the two married in 2001.

Philip Rivers played the bulk of his 17 seasons with the Chargers. He showcased exceptional skills and set numerous franchise records, including a remarkable career-high 503 passing yards in a game against the Green Bay Packers in 2015.
Despite never playing in a Super Bowl, Rivers retired as one of the most prolific quarterbacks in NFL history. He was an 8-time Pro Bowl selection.
Quarterback Drake Maye, the first-round pick of the New England Patriots in the 2024 NFL draft, recently indicated that Rivers still has some bite in his throwing arm.
Maye admitted that he and Bo Nix, another first-round quarterback selection of the Denver Broncos, were both beaten in a throwing competition by the retired 42-year-old.
“He’s the best, we also had a quarterback competition we threw on the field, throwing out routes into a net,” Maye said. “And I hate to say it, but Philip still won that.”
Oh, and that game in which he greeted the nuns? The Chargers lost to the Lions, 13-10, prompting one fan at the time to joke: “I think they were praying for the Lions.”
