Former Kansas City Chiefs kicker and Super Bowl alumnus Harrison Butker has a message for young adults who are about to set out on their own for the first time — get married and start a family.
The football pro and Georgia Tech grad returned to his old campus this time to speak at the commencement for the class of 2023. The 27-year-old athlete, who is also an practicing catholic and family man, discussed the importance of developing a family, and how it has changed his life for the better since he started to do so.
Butkar prefaced that he would “pop off some hard truths,” during his speech, considering that traditional values are considered taboo in today’s post-modernist society which scoffs at religion and moral grounding.

“I’m not sure the root of this, but at least I can offer one controversial antidote that I believe will have a lasting impact for generations to come — get married and start a family,” said Butker.
“None of these accomplishments mean anything compared to the happiness I have I have found in my marriage and in starting a family,” Butker added. “My confidence as a husband and father, and yes, even as a football player is rooted in my marriage with my wife.”

It’s sad that in today’s age, to tell someone that getting married and having children to raise is somehow just seen as outdated or even a point of controversy could be seen as bold, but that’s just where we are it seems.
Luckily, some of the grads and their families in the audience seemed to pick up with Butker was tossing. He received a good round of applause which, by looking at the video, caught him a little off guard in a positive way.
