Soccer Legend Ronaldo Celebrates Baptism Before His Birthday: “Christian Faith Has Always Been A Fundamental Part Of My Life”

Brazilian soccer legend Ronald Luis Nozario de Lima, more commonly known and referred to by the mononym “Ronaldo,” has announced an achievement outside the world of sports and business. Ronaldo has fully and completely accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior by finally being baptized.

According to the Christian Post, Ronaldo was confirmed this month in Brazil and received communion at the Catholic Church of Sao Jose located in São Paulo.

“The Christian faith has always been a fundamental part of my life, since childhood, even though I had not yet been baptized,” he wrote in his native tongue of Portuguese over on Instagram.

“With the sacrament, I feel truly regenerated as a child of God — in a new, more conscious, deeper way. I renew my commitment to follow the path of good, of my own free will, believing in the love of Jesus, in supportive love.”

The ceremony took place just before his 47th birthday, and was led by Padre Fábio de Melo, a widely-followed priest and author in South America.

“The Phenomenon” is known for playing with teams like Barcelona and Real Madrid in between international competition, Ronaldo won the Golden Boot in Brazil’s victorious 2002 FIFA World Cup campaign and was named FIFA’s Player of the Year three times before retiring in 2011 at age 34.
