Longtime USWNT star Megan Rapinoe stated her Achilles injury in the final game of her career that it was a sign that there’s no God

Megan Rapinoe hit the pitch for her final game ever as part of the OL Reign during the National Women’s Soccer League title game only to have her career come to an abrupt halt. The often controversial 38-year-old star tore her Achilles tendon just six minutes into her team’s match with Gotham FC.

Rapinoe’s Reign lost the championship game to Gotham FC, effectively ending her competitive playing career on Saturday. But that wasn’t the whole story. What Rapinoe said later was.

“Everyone is always like, ‘Who kicked me?’ And obviously, no one was even around me, and I was pressing,” Rapinoe told The Seattle Times about the freak injury. “That’s what it felt like. Just a huge pop and I can’t even feel where the Achilles is, but pretty sure I tore my Achilles. The worst possible outcome.”

Unfortunately, Rapinoe then stepped into the same controversial waters that she just can’t help swimming in – the same ones that have marred her otherwise stellar athletic accomplishments. Her need to be controversial simply rook over.

“I’m not a religious person or anything and if there was a God, like, this is proof that there isn’t,” Megan Rapinoe said. “This is f—ed up. It’s just f—ed up. Six minutes in and I eat my Achilles.”

Her response sparked a ton of backlash, which seems fitting. Throughout the latter stages of her career, she often used her stature and standing as part of the United States Women’s Soccer Team to further her political agendas. So, she is going out in a similar manner.

“Thank God I have a f—ing deep well of a sense of humor. It’s devastating to go out in a final so early.”

Rapinoe leaves the global game of futbol as a two-time World Cup winner and a one-time Olympic gold medalist. She was voted FIFA’s Best Women’s Player in 2019 and was fortunately blessed to become one of the greatest female soccer stars of her generation.
