It’s been an odd season for the WNBA as a whole in 2023, and one more strange incident occurred this week involving Dallas Wings’ star Satou Sabally. Several fans of the Minnesota Lynx were ejected from their team’s home victory over Dallas after they heckled Sabally for rolling her ankle in the middle of the action.
In the fourth quarter of the Lynx’s 91-86 win, Sabally landed on Lynx guard Bridget Carleton’s foot and rolled her left ankle. As she was laying there on the court, Sabally snapped back around to look directly at a group of fans sitting just off the sidelines.
Wings head coach Latricia Trammell said the classless spectators were telling the 25-year-old WNBA star that they were glad that she got hurt.
“There is a fan sitting in the second row, she is a Lynx fan, and has been completely inappropriate tonight,” announcer Marney Gellner can be heard saying during the broadcast. “Sabally is asking the fans ‘Do you have something to say?’ and clearly several of them did tonight.”

Lynx leading lady and three-time WNBA Coach of the Year Cheryl Reeve later apologized to Sabally and Wings coach Latricia Trammell following the contest.
“Disgusting fan base in Minny,” Sabally later posted on social media about the incident. “The Schadenfreude to see someone get hurt can’t be a WNBA culture. Terrible words from the sidelines all game long.”
Standing 6’4″, Isatou ‘Satou’ Sabally was the second overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft and is already a two-time All-Star. Prior to her pro career, the star forward was a standout at the University of Oregon while playing for coach Kelly Graves.
