Fans at the Mohegan Sun Arena on Monday were clamoring to see Caitlin Clark during a game Monday. The arena is currently home to the WNBA’s top team, the Connecticut Sun.
That’s right. The Indiana Fever were on the road, but the crowd started chanting for one of their players.
Clark struggled against the formidable Sun squad, hamstrung by personal foul trouble early on in the contest. As a result, she was pulled midway through the third quarter.
The Sun’s own fans weren’t pleased.
“It’s very, very rare that you hear an arena start chants for genuinely wanting to see an opposing player, but the Clark effect has fans from all over the country hoping to see her play as much as possible,” For The Win writes.
Chants of “We want Caitlin” are starting to ring out here at Mohegan Sun Arena.

We Want Caitlin
Granted, it might be a little easier to chant ‘We want Caitlin’ when your team is up by 20 points at the half. Perhaps they wouldn’t want to see Clark on the floor in a much closer contest.
But if you think the chants were a one-off, you’d be wrong.
Sun fans actually booed one of their own players after a foul was called on them for bumping Clark, and they proceeded to mock her as if she had flopped.
Sun guard DiJonai Carrington’s wildly exaggerated recreation of what she considered a wild exaggeration was booed by many in the arena.
That’s right – They booed their own player. One of their better starters at that.

The Caitlin Clark Effect
All of this tracks, of course. Caitlin Clark is a star on her home court, for sure. But she’s the star of the league wherever she goes. Connecticut won’t be the last team to hear chants of ‘We want Caitlin’.
The WNBA on Monday released figures indicating their opening month of the 2024 season saw attendance numbers not seen in nearly three decades. The television ratings, meanwhile, have never been seen before.
The Caitlin Clark effect is taking hold in just about every WNBA city in the league. It’s not Indiana Fever, it’s Caitlin fever.
Next up for Clark and her club? The Atlanta Dream come to town on Thursday. What will the fans be chanting then?
