The Indiana Fever took a jab at Diana Taurasi on social media after the Phoenix Mercury lost Sunday to Caitlin Clark’s squad.

You may recall that Taurasi warned Clark before she even entered the WNBA that “reality is coming” for her.

Despite having a poor shooting game against the Mercury, Clark showed why she’s one of the most well-rounded rookies in the league by nearly scoring a triple-double – getting 15 points, nine rebounds, and 12 assists.

Indiana was down 49-38 at halftime but used a 17-0 run against the Merucry to grab a three-point lead heading into the final frame, ultimately prevailing 88-82.

The Fever social media account made a clear statement following the game.

“Reality check,” they wrote.

Diana Taurasi Falls To Caitlin Clark And The Fever

Back in April, Diana Taurasi seemed to suggest Caitlin Clark would be in for a rude awakening once she joined the WNBA.

“Reality is coming,” she told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt. “There’s levels to this thing. And that’s just life, we all went through it. You see it on the NBA side, and you’re going to see it on this side.”

“You look superhuman playing against 18-year-olds, but you’re going to come with some grown women that have been playing professional basketball for a long time.”

Clark is certainly doing alright so far. She and her club gave Taurasi a ‘reality check.’

She is averaging more assists, rebounds, and steals compared to Taurasi on the season, and is nearly identical to her in scoring.

Nothing But Love Now

The two players also ran into some controversy when the veteran was chosen for the United States Olympic team while Clark was left off the squad.

Taurasi will compete in her sixth Olympics at age 42 and will be joined by Phoenix Mercury teammate Brittney Griner. Clark at one point said the snub “woke a monster” according to her coach.

Following the game this weekend, Diana Taurasi had nothing but praise to offer Caitlin Clark.

“It’s amazing. What Caitlin’s been able to do in her short career so far has been nothing short of remarkable,” she told reporters. “The one thing that I really love about her … she’s put the work in.”

“Even throughout her short WNBA career, it’s been a lot of pressure, a lot of things thrown at her and she keeps showing up and she keeps getting better every single game,” Taurasi continued. “So her future is super bright.”

It’s pretty remarkable to see someone of the caliber of Taurasi come around on the WNBA rookie sensation.

She is a three-time WNBA champion, winning the Finals MVP twice, and learning 10 All-Star and league First Team honors in a storied career.

Clark and the Fever will face the Mercury again on July 12th.
