Becky Hammon and the Las Vegas Aces are looking to win their third consecutive WNBA title. It’s been an amazing run for the team, and is the latest dynasty around the sports world.

Hammon joined Vegas ahead of the 2022 WNBA season after being a top assistant for the San Antonio Spurs. She had previously been considered for multiple NBA vacancies before making the move to Vegas.

Headed by a star-studded group, including A’Ja Wilson and Kelsey Plum, Hammon has overseen some tremendous success.

But it has not been without drama. Back in 2023, former Las Vegas Aces player Dearica Hamby claimed to be the victim of “repeated acts of intimidation, discrimination and retaliation” leading up to her trade to the Los Angeles Sparks. She was pregnant at the time.

Hammon ultimately received a two-game suspension from the league while the Aces were docked their first-round pick in the WNBA Draft.

We now have some more information on this situation. It’s not great for the Aces or the growing WNBA entity in general.

According to Fox News, Hamby filed a federal lawsuit against the Aces and league in the U.S. District Court of Nevada on Monday.

“The WNBA is, at its core, a workplace, and federal laws have long shielded pregnant women from discrimination on the job. The world champion Aces exiled Dearica Hamby for becoming pregnant and the WNBA responded with a light tap on the wrist,” Dana Sniegocki, Erin Norgaard, and Artur Davis of HKM Employment Attorneys said in a statement.

It remains to be seen what type of damages Hamby is looking for. But this is not the spotlight the WNBA wants to be put in as the league continues to grow with young stars.

A three-time All-Star, Hamby was a first-round pick of the then-San Antonio Stars in the 2015 WNBA Draft before they moved to Vegas and rebranded as the Aces. She spent nine seasons with the franchise and was a part of their WNBA title team back in 2022 before being sent to Los Angeles.
