Angel Reese is reflecting on the trash-talking incident that put her on the national map and suggesting she’d one day like to be teammates with her rival, Caitlin Clark.

Reese made several eye-opening statements in a recent interview with Wall Street Journal Magazine. She began reflecting on the infamous incident which she says has now led to a “full-circle moment.”

The Chicago Sky star, then playing for the LSU Tigers, famously taunted Clark, with Iowa at the time, shading her with a ‘you can’t see me’ gesture while also pointing to her ring finger. As in, ‘Hey Caitlin, you’re not getting a championship ring.’

Harmless trash-talking. And prescient, at that.

“It’s just a full-circle moment of how women are viewed when it comes to trash-talking,” she said. “It’s OK in men’s sports. We’re going to normalize that in women’s sports as well.”

“So it’s just super-competitive. I think we’re two great competitors.”

So for starters – we can expect the ladies to up their smack-talk game. What else?

Angel Reese And Caitlin Clark – Two Great Competitors

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have surely been two great competitors. Clark just completed the most impressive rookie season of any WNBA player in the history of the league.

She averaged 19.2 points, 8.4 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game, leading the league in assists and three-pointers made. She set multiple records, including becoming the first rookie to record a triple-double, and led the Indiana Fever back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

Clark also broke the rookie scoring record with 769 points.

Reese, meanwhile, had her own exceptional rookie season, leading the WNBA in rebounds with a historic average of 13.1 per game. She set new league records for total rebounds in a season (temporarily, due to an injury), and accumulated the most double-doubles by a rookie.

Can you imagine these two teaming up?

But Can They Be Two Great Teammates?

Angel Reese told the Wall Street Journal that she is hoping she and Caitlin Clark can one day be teammates. (Of course, they briefly played together on the WNBA All-Star Team.) And again, she claims the two are practically inseparable when it comes to the WNBA’s success.

“We brought a lot of fans to this league,” Reese said of their dueling rookie seasons. “And I think we’re going to continue to do that. And one day, hopefully, we’ll be teammates.”

Earlier in the season, Reese demanded that the media recognize her importance to the WNBA.

“I know I’ll go down in history. I’ll look back in 20 years and be like: ‘Yeah, the reason why we’re watching women’s basketball isn’t just because of one person. It’s because of me, too,’” she said.

“And I want you to realize that.”

As for being teammates, the Chicago Sky forward has alluded to this in the past. But rather than being on the same team in the WNBA, she is likely referring to being on the Olympic team together.

“In the future, we are gonna be playing with each other a lot,” Reese said from the sidelines of the All-Star game. “Hopefully, in 4 years, we can be Olympians together.”
