WNBA: Draft

Is there trouble brewing in paradise? Caitlin Clark complained about the WNBA schedule just days after league commissioner Cathy Engelbert announced they are expanding their regular season to 44 games in 2025.

Relax though, the complaint was a little bit tongue-in-cheek. The crux of Clark’s dismay? Interfering with her time on the golf course.

“The only downside about the WNBA is [that it’s] during the summer. That’s when you golf,” she said, smiling all the while.

“So I’ve had my golf take a back seat to basketball.”

Before you laugh, realize you shouldn’t be surprised that Caitlin Clark is also very, very good at golf.

Caitlin Clark Not Happy With Cutting Into Her Golf Schedule

Caitlin Clark will be teeing off at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge, an LPGA Tour event named after and hosted by legendary golfer Annika Sörenstam.

“I love golf so the opportunity to play in the Pro-Am for a tournament with a legend like Annika Sörenstam’s name on it is so exciting,” the Indiana Fever star said in a statement.

The tourney is taking place at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida this November.

She also made some noise with a recent viral video showing her narrowly missing a hole-in-one.

“So I’ve had my golfing take a back seat to basketball, but no it’s been all good. It’s been nice to have a little break, and I’ve just been playing some golf in the Midwest,” Clark added to her complaint.

“It’s been nice, it’s been fun and it’s been relaxing.”

She Might Be Joking, But Angel Reese Hasn’t Been Happy

While Caitlin Clark’s comments about the WNBA interfering in her golf game were made in jest, her rival Angel Reese hasn’t been so fond of the league of late.

Reese recently trashed the WNBA for not paying players enough and indicated the league salary wasn’t enough to cover her housing costs, which amount to $8,000 per month in rent.

She then took a jab at the WNBA, saying she’s excited to play for the new Unrivaled League that instead promises six-figure salaries and “gives equity to players.”

The WNBA, having just announced an expansion from 40 to 44 regular season games and expanded the Finals to a best-of-seven series, may be forced to pay their players more soon.

The Women’s National Basketball Players Association (WNBPA) recently opted out of the league’s current collective bargaining agreement and warned they are willing to go on strike to get higher “equity-based” paychecks.

Hey, at least a work stoppage means more time on the links for Caitlin.
