Even the great Caitlin Clark can experience some difficult times in sports. The golf course may be the great equalizer.
Clark, the Rookie of the Year in the WNBA, humorously revealed her top priority for today’s LPGA pro-am golf event: Avoid hitting anyone with a golf ball.
A rather reasonable expectation, wouldn’t you say?
She is competing at The ANNIKA driven by Gainbridge, an event named after and hosted by legendary golfer Annika Sörenstam. The tourney is taking place at the Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida.
When asked about her golf game before the event, Clark was honest.
“I’m strong, and I can hit it. It just doesn’t usually go straight,” she said. “I mean sometimes it goes straight, but it depends. You just step up there and you hope for the best.”
“I’m a good sport about it,” she added. “I just don’t want to hit anyone with a golf ball. That’s my number one priority.”
Caitlin said she set herself up for failure jokingly about becoming a professional golfer. She says she can shoot 80 but mostly she’s just praying to stay under 100. Her goal is to not hit anyone 😭 pic.twitter.com/sG5KgNYFuk

Caitlin Clark’s LPGA Nightmare
While everyone was laughing at the idea of Caitlin Clark hitting somebody at the LPGA event, a fear most of us who haven’t played before crowds would reasonably have, reality soon almost slapped her – and a fan – right in the face.
Clark, a phenomenal athlete by any measure, still managed to succumb to nerves on the third tee.
She shanked the tee shot, shooting off to the immediate left, barely getting enough ground clearance to elevate above the heads of the spectators.
Yikes, this was close!
Clark apologized to the crowd before doing what every golfer on the planet would have done after going shankapotomus. She pulled another ball out and gave it another shot.

Did She Recover?
Has Caitlin Clark ever been more relatable than in this moment at the LPGA Pro-Am? We’ve all been there. Terrible shot, take the mulligan, and now the pressure mounts even more.
Your face turns red. You start sweating. It feels like every pair of eyes on the golf course is focused on you.
Fortunately, Clark regrouped and hit her second attempt pretty straight and out of trouble.
We’re so used to the WNBA star succeeding at every sport she partakes in. Clark went viral after nearly scoring an ace on a fairly short par 3.

Alright, it wasn’t that close, but at least she didn’t nearly take somebody’s dome off.
Prior to that, a video of Clark playing soccer as a high school freshman had the internet equally ablaze. The clip showed the WNBA superstar scoring a goal while shadowed by two defenders by launching the ball from a tight angle.

And then there was success in the batting cages.
Caitlin Clark’s skills off the basketball court should come as no surprise. Her parents had her playing softball, volleyball, soccer, tennis, and golf as a child before she eventually settled on basketball. She’s an all-around tremendous athlete.
Still, after that tee shot, it’s definitely a good thing she stuck with B-ball.
